collection focus: the wonky petticoat

made from a deadstock fabric with a magenta satin stripe pressed into it, this fabric was so eye catching i bought the whole roll on the spot and spent weeks deliberating what to do with it. i wanted a bold layering piece that added visually to an outfit without weighing it down in heat and heaviness. truly a head turner, every time i feel my look is lacking this is the piece i go for first !

created from a locally sourced deadstock denim, i knew this piece was definitely going to be included in off kilter from the get go. I chose to add a small puff sleeve, high collar, and button fly extension to give the piece a bit more detail and a stronger silhouette.

the design was created in desperation for layering items that weren’t too warm or constricting during transitioning seasons. i struggled on the name for some time but to me it is vaguely reminiscent of a piece of armour, so it became the knight bolero.

the first sample featured buttons, a bow, plaid trim and even a raglan sleeve. I decided I wanted a more minimalist, masc look - so I stripped the design down, even hiding the closures. the sample still found its home though 🙂‍↕️
